Mira Mesa Spacious Naturalistic Groundswell Landscaping is excited to feature the 'Mira Mesa Spacious Naturalistic' , a remarkable renovation that merges beauty and function in San Diego. For clients who called the coastal communities from Cardiff By The Sea to La Jolla their home, we were given the opportunity to design an elegant outdoor living area that reflected the natural beauty of the surrounding landscape. To complete the , we selected a rich assortment of native plants that thrive in the local climate, ensuring beauty throughout the year, while keeping water use to a minimum. Using native and drought-tolerant plants, such as California poppies, lavender, and succulents, we were able to add vibrant colors and textures along with supporting the wildlife. To create an airy feeling and connectivity, we used natural stone in the boulders and walkways that came from nearby quarries, allowing for synergy between style and environmental context. The stones were arranged to allow guests to wander and explore the beauty of the gardens as they unfolded. One of the challenges we faced was working with the high slope of the site. For rainwater management, we determined we would need to make alterations to the site's grading and drainage, while ensuring we incorporated sustainable practices. The final design allows for heavy rainfall and also promotes soil health and mitigates future erosion. The final product, when completed, is a staggering outdoor area that inspires the client, giving the area a sense of presence and coziness. The balance between the hardscape and softscape has created a picturesque area for relaxation and entertainment, whether for smaller family gatherings or quiet evenings with a glass of wine watching the stars.
