Deloache Harold Leidner Landscape Architects has recently finished the Deloache , an exceptional presentation of modern landscaping that balances composition and function. Located in North Dallas, this extensive residential landscape creates outdoor living spaces that reimagine the property as an oasis. The includes beautifully designed elements, including a custom stone patio that serves as an outdoor gathering space for entertaining and relaxing. High-quality bluestone pavers create a cohesive connection from the indoor living space to the outdoor experience. Surrounding the patio, native and adaptive plantings were used due to their ability to support existing biodiversity and provide year-round interest. The plants selected are drought-tolerant species, which aligns the client’s expectation for the landscape to have sustainable practices. A significant effort in the Deloache involved understanding the steep contours of the site. Our firm developed a series of terraced ornamental garden beds that create functional planting areas, while providing visual depth and interest to the landscape. Residents and guests can enjoy the new value of the landscape as we used locally sourced granite boulders to define each terrace bed to foster a naturalistic condition that relates to the existing forest behind the property. In addition, a water feature with a waterfall, exposed boulders, and koi pond provides soothing sounds and attracts wildlife. The water feature was added for aesthetic purposes but also enhances the microclimate of the garden, which is extremely important in the Texas summers. The end result of the Deloache is an outstanding landscape that exceeds the expectations of the client. Each element works in concert to create a beautiful outdoor living space that is functional and inviting. Traditional materials, bold design, and place-based design have produced a landscape that many people could enjoy for years.
