Small Backyard With Recycled Concrete Patios This landscaping by Hortus Design Sustainable Landscapes created a calm oasis in an otherwise small backyard, and is a beautiful example of sustainable design in action. Located in Silicon Valley and The Peninsula, this focused on sustainability utilizing recycled concrete for the patio that provides a durable solution while being environmentally responsible. A custom patio and landscape design elements throughout the lot. With textures and color reminiscent of a rustic charm while maintaining a modern feel, recycled concrete reduces the amount of waste a win-win in our books! For sustainability, we added a selection of balmy [top] region and climate-appropriate drought-resistant plants that need little watering to complement the patio. One of the hardest things was that space was at a premium, and we had to come up with creative solutions to make things functional but still beautiful. Working with Richards, we crafted multiple-tiered seating spaces and integrated vertical gardens to bring greenery into the space without clutter. An efficient drainage has also been added to prevent any possible water runoff problems that might cause the landscape to perish in the long run. The end result is a stylish yet sustainable design that has blown the client away. Not only a personal oasis, but also a gathering place for family and friends, the renovated backyard is an ideal example of our dedication to Outdoor Living.
