Article: Custom Woodworking + Play Yard in the Back & Front Yard Designed by Hortus Design Sustainable Landscapes, this gorgeous, innovative, and functional landscaping in Silicon Valley exemplifies a true balance between form and function. We shaped the front and the back yard into a wild oasis where there's an equal opportunity for stress-free lounging and having a ball. We used native drought-resistant plants in the front yard to add curb appeal and increase habitat. Native grasses and flowering shrubs provide year-around beauty; a dramatic local flagstone paved path runs through the colorful texture. In the backyard, a family-friendly designed retreat includes a custom-made play area that fits with its surroundings. For the tree house and climbing structures that we constructed, we used quality wood that is sourced sustainably though it is naturally safe as we ensured for durability. A soft, sustainable turf surrounds the play area, providing a safe place to romp and reducing water consumption. Incorporating existing mature trees was one of the ’s main challenges. Our experienced team worked around this by creating a unique arrangement that kept the trees whilst adding further visual interest. We added a beautiful wooden deck, ideal for family gatherings, built from weather and UV resistant composite materials. It ultimately gave way to a beautiful landscape that represents their lifestyle and beliefs. Clients were amazed at the combination of game and relaxation, the unique quality of our custom carpentry, but most of all, the sustainability of ensuring their yard will thrive for years. We're glad to have had the opportunity to create a landscape that serves the family's needs while contributing to the unique natural context for Silicon Valley and The Peninsula.
