Trellis Native Frontyard Garden Featuring 'Native Front Yard Garden with Trellis' by Hortus Design Sustainable Landscapes LOOP, this embodies the beauty in local naturally sustainable design for the discriminating Southern Silicon Valley and The Peninsula homeowner. This creative adaptation of the landscape features California-compatible plants as well as the visual enhancement that simultaneously supports local species. The design is centred on a beautiful, bespoke trellis made from sustainably sourced cedar. It acts as a vertical garden that not only supports climbing plants but also provides shade in the summer and a seasonal element of decor. Native vines, including the California honeysuckle, drape and enfold the trellis while bringing pollinators and an established green cover. Drought-tolerant species such as sage, yarrow and other grasses make up the plant palette, cutting down on both water use and maintenance. They had not only inherited poor, compacted, and nutrient deficient soil, but our team was tasked with reworking the structure. By amending the soil and adding organic matter, we prepared the best possible place for the plant roots. Every plant needed the right mix of sun and shade, so they were carefully placed; there was a potential drainage problem that was rectified to prevent jeopardizing the growth of plants. Our terrific landscapers were able to creatively navigate those issues with expert grading to make the garden healthy and sustainable for years to come. The outcome is a balanced landscape in the front yard that not only adds to the curb appeal of the property but also creates a welcoming space for the family and the local wildlife. The client was overjoyed with the end result and how the garden looks so colourful and adds such a lovely atmosphere to their house.
