Published September 20, 2023 Landscaper Front Yard Nightscaping by Hortus Design Sustainable Landscapes In the middle of Silicon Valley, Hortus Design Sustainable Landscapes created the 'Front Yard Nightscaping' that reshaped a typical daytime front yard into a nighttime magical facial gathering area. We were to create a landscape that is beautiful as it is functional and is part, rather than detracting from, the home, as a go-to curb appeal at all times, and a space to enjoy at night. We did this by implementing a careful balance of drought-tolerant plants, tasteful stone paths, and strategic lighting. Using native California flora not only made sustainability a reality but reduced water use, so it was a natural fit with our green landscaping principles. Borders comprised of textured boulders and local river rock were created, custom designed LED fixtures were mounted throughout the caves and driveways to illuminate focal points without overpowering the natural beauty of the surroundings. Our main obstacle was working with the uneven areas that existed so we leveled and graded the area to create a beautiful platform for our design. We also worked alongside the homeowner to represent the ideal color palette that would contrast beautifully against the twilight sky and the plants that would provide a humane twilight spectacle. In the end, you get a beautiful entry yard that, at night, turns into a dreamscape. Carefully positioned lights provide quiet illumination of the infinite detail in the landscaping, keeping the homeowner and their guests outdoors for hours in the cool of the evening. Our client was over the moon with their new front yard and is now using it as a family location to meetup and enjoy the evenings.
