Hidden Gem by K & D Landscaping, Inc. In the middle of Santa Cruz county, 'Hidden Gem' illustrates K & D Landscaping, Inc.'s exemplary work of transforming any space, however ordinary, into an extraordinary outdoor horticultural retreat for its clients. We work with a considerable diversity of clientele throughout Amesti, Aptos, Capitola and beyond, and when it came time to redesign a forgotten garden space, we looked forward to the task. The started with looking at every aspect of the site. The team here was able to illustrate the unique and special characteristics of the landscape and take advantage of those qualities for prospective use. Our designers wanted to create a restful space of refuge that blended into the organic ethos of the home's surrounding landscape. As a means to an end, our landscape team introduced several varieties of native flora, both for sustainability and reduced maintenance needs (and even more regarding local biodiversity). The focal feature of the 'Hidden Gem' is an incredibly beautiful custom stone patio (crafted with locally sourced flagstone) that provides wonderful access to either sun or shade while simultaneously providing durability. Enveloping the patio centerpiece, we incorporated lush plant beds with perennials and ornamental grasses that include a colorful palette showing textures throughout every season. Water features also add peaceful ambiance with the soft performance of cascading water. A challenging factor of this was the steep graded slope of the property, demanding thoughtful solutions for terracing the garden. With the addition of elegant retaining walls made of natural boulders, our landscape team not only offered stabilization for those slopes, but also incorporated additional planting opportunities for increased aesthetic enhancement. Overall, the was received with delight by our client who is now able to enjoy their beautiful outdoor embracing lifestyle and values.
