Biography: Raised a few blocks from the renowned Huntington gardens in San Marino, California, it should come as no surprise that Gabriela Yariv's first word was "flowie." That childhood passion, coupled with the idealism of an artist whose natural gifts were leavened by an extraordinary school of landscape architecture's training in horticulture and design, has brought her two decades of science-inspired success as a professional landscape designer. The famed estate gardens of Pasadena and San Marino that influenced her sensibility have instilled in her a lifelong commitment to protecting and improving Pasadena’s proud legacy of gardens. Philosophy: The idea simply means the spirit of the place and it is the essence of Gabriela Yariv Landscape Design. Of course Gabriela knows that the ideal garden has to follow the architectural and physical attributes of a site. In Southern California, gardens are utilized throughout the year, so they must not only be aesthetically pleasing and environmentally friendly, but also act as outdoor living rooms. Gabriela sculpts the landscaped space informed by the individuality of each site’s particulars, and the needs of each client propel the gardens to be a natural extension of the home. Gabriela takes pride in having long-term clients over the years. She was commissioned to design gardens for residences by some of Los Angeles' A-list (at least turn-of-the-century) architects including Wallace Neff, Sylvanus Marston, Greene&Greene, Roland Coate and Joseph Kucera. Education/Professional Experience: Gabriela is a graduate of Cornell University with a degree in landscape architecture. Gabriela was previously part of The Walt Disney Imagineering and worked at Mia Lehrer and Associates before starting her own design practice.
