The Short Path Distillation Head HB1 100, part of Summit Research’s HB series, is an advanced distillation head designed to maximize the efficiency and precision of short path distillations. Inspired by Summit’s patented fraction collector technology, the HB1 100 mm head features a 34/45 discharge port and an impressive 100 mm bore, providing a larger surface area to accommodate high-throughput distillation processes. This head secures directly to a boiling flask using an O-ring and clamp, ensuring stability and airtight operation during distillations.

Advanced "No-Vig" Technology

The HB1 series is built with an industry-first “no-vig” approach, which eliminates the need for traditional vigreux columns. Instead, the baffled section extends below the head base into the boiling flask, enabling ultra-selective fraction separation. This design allows for the removal of unwanted fractions before reaching the main body of the distillate, ensuring precise separation. This technology enhances the efficiency of the distillation process, making the HB1 100 a perfect choice for high-speed, selective distillation.

Highly Selective Fraction Collection

The HB1 100 mm head was initially created for a professional tester, Breaking Dabs aka Heisenberg, who collaborated with Summit to refine the HB series. This head is engineered to be highly selective, effectively evacuating previous fractions before the main body is distilled. This ensures that only the desired components are collected. The head is also capable of performing fast first-pass distillations by efficiently removing unwanted heads fractions while retaining the primary components of the main body.

Custom Vacuum Setup for Optimal Performance

For optimal results, the HB1 100 distillation head works best with a customized vacuum system. Summit Research recommends the following configurations:

• Sogevac + dual E2M30
• Sogevac + E80
• Sogevac + E80 + diffusion array

Additionally, incorporating a custom diffusion array and an Apollo Vacuum Controller with inert gas sweeping can significantly improve speed while lowering operating temperatures. This custom setup enhances the performance of the HB1 series by boosting the distillation speed and ensuring high-quality output at lower temperatures.
