Preston Hollow - Eclectic Courtyard and Landscape Southern Land Design, a premier design/build firm servicing the local communities of Highland Park, University Park, Casa Linda, Fair Park, Oak Cliff, Preston Hollow, Redbird, and Uptown, is excited to share the Preston Hollow - Eclectic Courtyard and Landscape . This wonderful took a basic outdoor space and transformed it into a remarkable retreat that combines elegance and functionality. We were faced with a slope that limited usable space, as well as aesthetically pleasing sight lines. After careful planning and a creative approach to design, we allowed for a tiered approach that created visual dynamism and improvement of accessibility. The courtyard is inviting due to the use of custom cut bluestone pavers that allow for a natural transition from one outdoor living space to the next. We included lush native plantings that flourish in this climate, and therefore will maintain interest year round, while also limiting maintenance. Ornamental grasses and perennial flowering plants were emphasized to create layers of visual interest, and to attract the local wildlife. A weathered cedar pergola is a focal point of visual interest, creating a shaded retreat to read or entertain outdoor members and family. The water feature includes updated equipment and new decorative rock. This was a great addition as it allowed for a soothing sound component to the space. Custom lighting was added to the existing stone paths and highlighted the landscape architecture and features. The final product is an eclectic courtyard, based on the personality and lifestyle of the client, which will serve for hosting families and friends, as well quiet retreat in one's alone time. The great combination of hardscape and softscape, and attention to craftsmanship quality left a client thrilled with their new outdoor living oasis for friends and family as well as private time alone.
