Briar Cove Completed by Southern Land Design - A Design / Build Firm Located in Highland Park, Briar Cove is a prime example of the artistry and craftsmanship Southern Land Design is known for. The involved transforming a small outdoor space into a magical retreat, marrying the beauty of nature with the feel of contemporary. The featured a diverse palette of native plantings, chosen for their durability and beauty. Drought-tolerant varieties like Blackfoot daisies and ornamental grasses were used to provide a colorful patchwork suitable for Texas climates. The design called for a custom stone pathway built of local limestone, winding through the landscape and allowing guests to stroll through lush surrounds filled with blooms throughout the seasons. A challenge of the Briar Cove was the sloped nature of the topography, which could disrupt the visual and overall nature of the design. Our team leveled the terrain and created terraced garden beds that both honored the slope, added a dimensional aspect, and aided with drainage which ultimately strengthened the longevity of the plantings. A state-of-the-art irrigation system was installed with emphasis on water efficiency as another example of our focus on sustainable practices. We also added a beautiful cedar pergola that complements the natural beauty of the design while providing anchor of the space where our clients could entertain guests. The light we placed throughout the space allowed their garden to light up in the evening, providing mood and feel to host at night. Ultimately, our clients loved the end results of the Briar Cove that far exceeded their expectations. With functionality, aesthetic, and sustainable practices, we created a personal oasis which was an outdoor space exactly to their lifestyle.
