Miller Hill Road, Dover, MA Richard Kattman Landscape Architecture celebrates the completion of a successful landscaping at Miller Hill Road, Dover, MA. We work hard to improve outdoor spaces through creative design and attention to detail. The initial goal was to merge the natural slope of the site with the client's request for a peaceful and usable landscape. Our team employed native plantings, sustainable materials, and quality hardscape to develop a landscape incorporating a sense of order or tranquility. The use of locally sourced stone for retaining walls provides greater depth to the landscape and longevity against Mother Nature. Our team considered the timing of the flowering perennials and shrubs to extend visual vigor into the cooler months and to encourage pollinators as layering with plant placement addressed the seasonal lifespan of the plants as well. Equally impressive is the unique design of the patio using high-quality bluestone pavers. The patio is a cohesive and intentional part of the outdoor living space with integrated seating and fire pit creating a welcome atmosphere for families and friends. One challenge was overcoming the existing drainage issues by designing an effective rain garden that controls runoff while creating a more ecological environment. We opted to repurpose existing mature trees to include shade and a sense of age which added continuity in the landscape design. The final product surpassed the client's expectations by transforming their yard into an enviable, functional outdoor living area that serves the client's lifestyle while respecting the environment.
