Snyder Residence, Dover, MA Richard Kattman Landscape Architecture has completed a significant transformation of the Snyder Residence in lovely Dover, MA. This beautiful landscape elevates our focus on quality, creativity, and environmental sustainability within the landscape profession. When the began, our office was asked to improve the existing outdoor space and develop a quiet sanctuary while addressing the issues of steep slopes and drainage. We began the with site analysis and planning to ensure that all design components worked with the existing context of the natural landscape. To achieve a beautiful landscape with sustainable design components that required minimal maintenance, we specified local plant material growing in the area, like ornamental grasses, flowering perennials, and evergreen shrubs, to establish a balance of seasonal interest and color throughout the year. A bluestone patio, which is the primary gathering space for outdoor entertaining, adults, and children, is constructed with bluestone harvested locally. The also includes stone walls and pathways constructed with natural granite boulders selected from the surrounding environment. Our design solutions included a drainage strategy that integrated a rain garden that manages stormwater runoff and provides habitat to wildlife in our client's yard - it is a win-win! The design also included a concealed irrigation system - irrigation helps keep plants healthy and hydrated without compromising design aesthetics. The Snyder Residence is pleasant, private, and relaxing while retaining and enhancing property value. Our clients can now enjoy an outdoor space for gatherings, leisure, and closeness to the beauty of nature on their property!
