As part of the beautiful Jamestown landscape, this aimed to create a beautiful outdoor sanctuary that feels like it belongs in the landscape. The design features many native plant species that are generally well suited to the climate and enjoyment of interest year-round. There are large lush gardens with an abundance of perennials, ornamental grasses, and flowering shrubs that provide forage for local wildlife and pollinators. A unique feature of the is a custom stone patio made of bluestone. This patio serves as a gathering space outdoors and features an integrated fire pit, promoting warmth and ambiance on cooler evenings. Katherine Field and Associates prepared a drainage system to address water runoff issues and protect the longevity of the landscape while protecting the natural contour of the lands. The showcases pathways lined with boulders and gently-lit landscape lighting that creates a wandering space for guests to move through the gardens, inviting people to enjoy the experience at night. The use of reclaimed wood for raised garden beds further supports the rustic feel of the garden while promoting sustainable gardening practice for the homeowners. Challenges of the included rocky site conditions and minimal environmental damage.
