Deck and Surrounding Landscape by Iris Design Associates Iris Design Associates, located in the beautiful Northern Virginia community, is happy to present "Deck and Surrounding Landscape," a unique outdoor space uniting style and functionality. Serving the communities of Bealeton, Brandy Station and beyond, we began this with a mission to enrich the client’s outdoor living space. The highlight of this we executed was a beautifully built, tiered deck constructed of high-quality composite materials that would resist fading and wear for a long-lasting solution and minimal maintenance. Surrounded by the deck, we included a variety of complimentary native plants which were selected based on how well they would adapt themselves to the environment, and also to provide color throughout the seasons. The deck and surrounding area feature beautiful perennials and evergreens placed beautifully and conveniently for an inviting effect. One such challenge we faced on the property with the deck was the grade of the slope of the property, requiring different options for drainage and stability. The landscape architects were able to design terraced garden beds to enhance the area, while providing functional planting spaces to conquer erosion, while creating cozy and intimate spaces to sit and relax. To tie together the area with a natural feel we incorporated pathways of natural stone to connect the deck and surrounding landscape to make it easy to walk around the area. The stone was chose because it was native and sourced locally to the property, while also eased the path of natural landscape integration, resulting in the pathway feeling very natural within it’s surroundings. In the end, we were able to produce a stunning outdoor space that exceeds the client’s expectations! The deck serves as a great place for a family or guests to gather or visit, while the area surrounding the deck invites one to explore the beautiful landscape and its associated tranquility. The integration of hardscape and softscape reflects the quality workmanship and design effort that went into it. At Iris Design Associates, we do what we can to take outdoor spaces and turn them into a personal sanctuary. This and the client are an excellent example of a beautiful landscape that can be used to enhance the outdoor space experience for our clients within Virginia, Washington DC, and Maryland.
