Limestone Ferry by Iris Design Associates Set in the calm of Northern Virginia's landscape, the known as 'Limestone Ferry' illustrates the artistry and craft of Iris Design Associates. The limestone ferry involved the redesign of a spectacular estate in Bealeton, VA, where our firm worked to design with the natural context while also addressing a need for sophistication. The feature of the was a limestone patio that emerged from the site and landscape, while allowing for gathering space for family and friends, and worked within the existing topography of the site. Not only was high-quality Locally-sourced limestone durable for the , but it worked with rather than against the natural hues of the landscape creating a timeless piece of architecture. One of the challenges for the was the existing site was uneven and required grading the land to allow for proper drainage and stability. The grading addressed stability while also adding terraced gardens for visual interest and functional uses. The gardens included an assortment of native plants and perennials selected for sustainable qualities and seasonal interest while encouraging biodiversity. Custom stone walkways were conceived throughout the outdoor . These paths draw visitors through the lush plantings and delivered them to a cozy fire pit where seating was offered and entertaining was encouraged. Considerations for hosting family five and friends was an important aspect for the client and for Iris Design Associates to envision in outdoor space. In the end, the exceeded the client’s aspirations to transform space into an oasis that festively replicated their needs and way of life. The limestone ferry added value to the property while allowing for a tranquil escape into nature and defined the willing for high quality elements that Iris did and will supply.
