Residential Patio and Landscape s by Iris Design Associates Iris Design Associates is excited to present our recent transformation: the Residential Patio and Landscape s, an incredible outdoor retreat that combines the desire for purpose and the beauty of nature. We have a diversified clientele for our exterior renovations, ranging from Bealeton, Brandy Station, Calverton, and beyond, with meaningful attention to detail and perseverance for quality. This specific opportunity started with the clients’ vision for flexibility in their outdoor living space for family gatherings and time spent with family. Our team started with a careful site visit, evaluating the particulars of the existing site and the site conditions, which included elevation variances and existing plants. Our craftsmanship would include a patio that not only complemented the architectural language/scales of the house, but also, fit well into the topography of the yard. Next, we selected materials, specifying upscale, durable natural stone pavers for the patio surface, allowing for an aesthetically inviting surface that would be durable and age well. The patio was designed and included a built-in fire pit, for family evenings, and also included an outdoor cooking experience area. To frame this hardscape, we specified native plants from local growers and also ornamental grasses for their hardiness of low maintenance plants that offer vibrant elements to the landscape throughout the seasons. One major issue we had to interpret was resolving site drainage, which could make water pool and erode the soil. To resolve we installed a French drain system to carry the excess water away, supporting the integrity of the patio and to the landscape as a whole. The final product was beyond what our clients' imagined, and an enchanting outdoor space which initiated relaxation and social gatherings, nestled in plush greens and colorful blooms. Our lighting selection set the scene also, as we were three hundred feet from street lights, the atmosphere transforms the space into a fairytale at night, enjoying the outdoor space year-round for the family.
