About This Project

Hilltop Landscaping by Iris Design Associates The Hilltop , developed by Iris Design Associates, is located on a slope with a view, where we transformed an uninspired lot into a memorable outdoor retreat. This serves the communities in Bealeton, Brandy Station, and the surrounding area. Our team involved the combination of nature and art to create a beautiful landscape that fit perfectly in the Virginia countryside. We began this process with a thorough site analysis and understanding of the topography and sun exposure of the lot. The challenges of the included steep slopes and rocky conditions, which required custom solutions. Terracing was used in many design elements, including retaining walls comprised of locally-sourced stone, which not only improved the slope stability, but also created interesting textures. For sustainability and low maintenance, we specified a variety of native plants for the landscape, with an arrangement of colorful perennials, ornamental grasses, and flowering shrubs that included interesting forms and colors throughout the seasons. The use of quality biodegradable materials, such as permeable pavers, was implemented for all pathways and patio areas, which were more aesthetically pleasing and aided in drainage, thereby helping with erosion issues. In addition to the plants, and to add to the aesthetic of the landscape, we included a water features a waterfall with a gentle American sound of falling water. Seating was specific to the circumstances of the renovation, and comprised of reclaimed wood, allowing the homeowners a space to casually congregate or reflect quietly, all within the natural ambiance and stunning views. The end product was a lush landscape that exceeded the client's expectations. Hilltop is a representation of Iris Design Associates’ quality work, creative design and environmental stewardship, achieving an outdoor space that combined elegance with functional living. The client is very excited its new oasis, where natural beauty meets built design, perfect for a family gathering or reading in peace.
