LandStudio a nearly fledgling landscape design practice in Miami. All that we do at Fortis is a microcosm of our bigger goal of creating thoughtful and innovative landscape architecture across South Florida. Since 2009, LandStudio has been run and owned by Karla Ortez and builds architectural designs like patios, sitting areas, kids areas, terraces and pools that push for the use of natural materials like wood, pavers, pebbles and sand. Another core principle of LandStudio apart from working with natural materials, is embedding design that strives to connect the outdoor and indoor environments. Karla earned her Bachelor's Degree in Interior Design, and Master's Degree in Landscape Architecture from Florida International University. Karla was born in Honduras and spent her childhood in a Central American rain forest where she was always inspired by the beautifully diverse wildlife. Most of her fond childhood memories relate back to nature, at a young age she discovered her attraction to the wild and the influence it has on humans and human impact. Upon receiving her masters, Karla started working at a nationally respected South Florida architecture firm, Bermello, Ajamil and Partners, where she focused in commercial design and urbanism. LandStudio was born out of the desire to express my voice after B&A. LandStudio seeks to create extra hospitable facades, so people might linger longer in outdoor spaces at their homes and also works to educate homeowners on the very advantages of humans as part of the surrounding world. LandStudio aesthetically composes gardens that wish to placate the spirit and bring about communion with nature.
